Hi there, Friends! Today I am sharing a fun repurposed project. While these retro bottle stoppers would be a great addition to a Christmas or New Year's Eve party, they can also add a little bling to a bar cart year round!
I am not a bowler and Zumba is the extent of my athletic abilities, but I have wanted to repurpose the plastic trophies I often see when thrifting. I thought they had a retro vibe and would make fun bottle stoppers. Not just for wine, either--pictured below, I used one for water and the bottle on the right is actually coffee syrup. So if you don't have a bar cart, they could be added to any beverage station. Ready to see how I made them?
Remember this recent trophy find? Besides the bowler, I had collected a few others. All I did was unscrew the plastic figures from the trophy bases and give them a coat of copper spray paint.
Do you save wine bottle corks? If not, I've included a link at the bottom of the post. If you happen to have any of the rubber type, they're actually slightly easier to work with, but I used both. I used a screwdriver to start the hole.
Next, I turned the figure clockwise to screw it into the cork.
I continued to turn the trophy until it was screwed in all the way. This takes some work, and the one pictured is the rubber type cork. The cork variety requires a little more care--if forced, the cork will break.
I really like them grouped together. They would make a great gift for sports lovers!
For a festive touch, I added some rosemary to my tree ice cube trays:
I love them with sparkling water and twist of lime!

FUN! I was curious as to what you were gonna do with the bowling trophy and this is so neat! Those tree cubes with the rosemary are just the best...I want to try that :)
ReplyDeleteCecilia, clever repurpose! I didn't know trophy toppers unscrewed, so will have to check those I come across. Like the copper paint...certainly an improvement on the shiny silver.
