Upcycled Yard Sale Sign

Happy Monday, Friends! Y'all know I love a good yard sale upcycle and today I'm sharing how I transformed a sign I scored for $1 with a little paint and some dollar store decals from  my craft stash...

I haven't seen many yard sales in my area this summer--probably due to the extreme heat--so when I saw several within a few blocks of each other after my grocery pick up, I was happy to hit the brakes and take a look. At first glance, this LOVE sign inspires thoughts of Valentine's Day or wedding decor, but it was in perfect condition and only $1. Cha-ching!

God knows we sure could use more love in this world any day of the year and I had an idea for transforming the sign with a few of the handy dollar store decals that I had on hand. To create a similar effect on your next thrifted sign, start by applying craft paint in a similar shade to the decals you plan to use. (I painted the outline of the heart with a small brush before filling in the rest with a larger brush.) Allow it to dry thoroughly, and then place the decals as desired. Voila!  TIP: Although I considered filling the entire heart with the succulent designs, I opted for a less is more approach and was pleased with the results. To see another way I updated a sign with dollar store decals, look here!

  1. Awesome job, I am not particularly a green person, but you matched those colors perfectly making it perfect for year-round! The sign really stands out against the greenery!

  2. Cecilia, this was an excellent buy for $1.00. I'm glad you could see past the red heart and turn it into a sign that can be used all year. Love the choice of green and the decals. I need to remember this diy when I visit garage sales :)
