15 Minute Repurposed Garden Hose Wreath

Happy Wednesday, Friends! If you read my title and think you've seen this project before, keep reading because today's 15 Minute Fix is a slightly different approach to the typical garden hose wreath....

A few years ago, Youngest Daughter raved about her new fabric garden hose, "It will change your life!" Wow! Who can resist a life-changing hose--certainly not me! I decided to give it a try and soon agreed with YD's praise when I realized how lightweight it was and what a difference it made hauling the hose from one end of the garden to the other. Unfortunately, when they were first introduced, the lightweight factor seemed to affect the durability and it wasn't  long before the two I purchased both sprang leaks in the fabric. They were relatively new and I couldn't bear to throw away the colorful green hoses, so I tucked them in my handy garden storage drawers thinking I might eventually use them for crafting....and so I did! Ready to make your own? Start with a fabric garden hose. Maybe you had a similar experience and hoarded held onto your hose like I did ;) If not--try checking thrift stores, yard sales and garden clearance.

You'll also need a wire wreath form. Sometimes Dollar Tree carries them but there's a link for suggested supplies at the bottom of the post for online shoppers too.

If you've seen my other DIY wreaths,  it's the same simple wrapping technique. Leave about 6 inches of hose with the nozzle free at one end, and start wrapping the hose tightly around the wreath form. Push the wrapped pieces closely together and continue to wrap the hose over and under, until it looks like...

...this. Now stretch and tie the two end pieces tightly together at the top of the wreath, so that they hang down toward the center. The entire wrapping process takes about 10 minutes.  I really like the texture and appearance. At first glance, if it weren't for the nozzles, it wouldn't be evident it was a garden hose--what do you think?

For the last 5 minutes, raid your craft stash to decorate your wreath--that's what I did! A double bow of colorful ribbon with a cherry design tied at the top and a mini chalkboard sign completed mine. Any type of garden accessories would be darling, too. Easy-peasy and I love being able to recreate the hose instead of tossing it!

Before I go, I wanted to give you an update on my use of fabric hoses in the garden. I found a more durable version that is still super light. I have a few that I use several times a week and I'm happy to report no leaks or holes in the fabric! {You can find it here!}

  8. It must have come and gone before I noticed there was such a thing as a fabric hose! I like yours much better! A much better use! Love your wreath too...the scrunched up look just makes that wreath! Pinned.

  9. Love it; I think I'd hide the ends of the hose inside the wreathe form and put it on my front door! That green would be great for Christmas or redecorated for St. Patrick's Day (my last name used to be O'Malley!); wish I had a hose like that! Would 7-8" pieces of hose work for Christmas tree decorations, bow over the joint?
